Tennis in the United States is played on three kinds of places: public park courts run by a city or county, member clubs and country clubs with their own pros and leagues, and commercial tennis centers that sell court time by the hour. Public courts are usually free and first come, first served, with a posted limit (often 60-90 minutes when others are waiting); busier cities run online reservation systems with a small fee and a permit for the season. Indoor courts are rented by the hour and booked days ahead in winter. Most facilities are hard courts; clay is common in the Southeast and at private clubs, and grass is rare. Lights extend play into the evening at many parks, sometimes with a coin or app-operated switch.

My 6 year old grandson loves this pool. I like it too, as long as I can be in the shade under the awning. The pool is always clean and the chemicals well-balanced. No chlorine smell! That is super important to me. The whole park is nice, and I personally love that the Kalamazoo Farmers Market is across the street :)

The pool is old but has been renovated during the pandemic and is in good shape now. The lifeguards are excellent and service oriented. I am a competitive swimmer and my team trains there each summer in early mornings and evenings. I would like to swim there more so my complaints refer to the lack of access. The pool opens two weeks after memorial day and closes three weeks before labor day, the traditional opening and closing dates of outdoor pools in Michigan. It usually is also closed an the 4th of July when people have off and could use the pool. I dint know the schedule this year but in the past noon lap swim was from 11:30to 12:30. Then closed from 12:30 to 1:00. Working people like me who want to swim during lunch hour would usually have 12-1:00 for their break so i dint even bother to go. The pool is a great resource but most people in the area do not even know it exists. More use would lead to more funding. More access and advertising would lead to more use.

Lovely community pool in the heart of downtown...stop in to enjoy lap swimming, aqua fitness classes, or family open swim. The showers were updated for 2023 & the 20235 lifeguards are SO awesome 😎! One thing that needs improvement: the pool is only open through early August. Yet summery weather continues long after that! With a little creative thinking and strategic planning, this facility could be kept open through Labor Day (at a minimum) to provide fitness opportunities to all, and learn to swim/water safety instruction to all area school children. If that sounds good to you, let the City of Kalamazoo Parks Department know!
